So you’re in Texas and the temperature is staying triple digits. What do you do? Go swimming? Stay indoors? Visit a cave? Or do you...stay with me on this...go geocaching? Yes, that’s right, it’s sweat dripping down your back just because you’re breathing hot and I wanted to be outside geocaching.
For those of you who don’t know what geocaching is, it’s when people hide canisters of varying sizes (as small as a pen but half as long

to as large as an ammo can)

with a variety of items inside and you have to find them.

You’re not supposed to take anything unless you replace it with something else and there’s always a log book for you to sign.

There’s a website where people give the coordinates of the caches they’ve hidden, and occasionally useful clues, to help you locate said cache. You also get to mark whether you found it or not here as well.
Simply put - it’s like I spy combined with treasure hunting. Bernie, the oldest son, knew I wanted to try geocaching so he took Dave, Adri, the middle daughter, and myself on a mystery cache expedition.

A mystery cache is just what it sounds like. You have to solve riddles after finding clues in multiple locations. So...much...fun! It was in a small park area so we covered a lot of the same ground several times as we figured out the clues and moved from one spot to another.

Everyone had a great time with only mild complaints about the heat and walking sometime around the 90 minute mark, which was understandable. I had such a great time that my loving husband allowed himself to be dragged out again a couple days later for an hour while we chased down more caches in a different area.
There is something to be said about the trees where we were at. Some were tall, some short but not many of them were shade trees. Those that happened to provide shade were...pokey. This was unfortunate. Still we trekked on, drinking lots of water while enjoying each other’s company along with the view.

And then we soaked in the cool water of the pool upon returning to the campground because we’re not completely insane.
